Signs of True Love: When the Cross Speaks Louder Than the Kiss

Relationship

A Poetic Piece

You may be admired by many eyes,
Praised beneath the open skies—
But when the winds begin to howl,
Who will stay and walk each mile?

Admiration brings you through the door,
But love must hold you evermore.
It’s easy when the sun is high,
But true love is proven when teardrops cry.

True love is tested in the night—
Through poverty, through loss, through fight,
In failure’s shadow, in sharp rejection,
In broken dreams and disconnection.

For true love is not a fleeting flame,
It gives, it yields—it bears the pain.
It costs the heart, it scars the skin,
It dies to self so love may win.

The love God seeks is not just sweet,
Not found in kisses, gifts, or heat.
But in the strength to bear the scars,
To walk with wounds, to reach the stars.

Jesus bore His love with loss—
No roses—just a rugged cross.
His hands held nails, not silken ties,
His love was blood, not lullabies.

Do you have scars to show you care?
Or only comfort and gifts to share?
Is it love—or lust’s disguise?
The truth will come—no need for lies.

So answer not when skies are blue,
But when the storm is breaking through.
Do you love me when I’m low?
When all is dark, will your love show?
